Real estate is not my business. I have had an opportunity to purchase a large parcel of property, which I hope to preserve for state or county park rather than see developed. It requires investment of nearly my entire life savings, which clearly represents a huge risk for me. As it has been under contract for several months already to developers, who have been working on other plans and already pre-sold some of the property, I have had only a month to commit in order to preserve the rest, with only the Seller’s appraisal to guide me. There has been no time to secure another appraisal.
I spoke with a few appraisers who were unable or unwilling to provide clear answers to questions I feel critical to analyze this purchase.
